Stride is free.
Here is the rest of the choice.
Stride’s mileage tracker costs nothing, and Stride Health also sells insurance to independent workers. MileWiz is only a mileage log. This page says what each one is for, and how a Stride mileage CSV imports, without talking you out of a free app that fits.
Checked 4 November 2026. Competitor names appear for factual, nominative comparison only. This is not tax or insurance advice.
If the only question is the price of mileage tracking, Stride wins. Its tax page says the app is free, and that when you buy insurance the cost is the carrier’s plan. MileWiz is free for 20 automatic trips a month and then $4.99 a month or $49.99 a year in the US App Store. Do not switch to MileWiz to save money on the tracker.
The useful question is what else is in the app. Stride is a tax-and-insurance product that includes a mileage log. MileWiz is the log, stored on the phone, backed up to the iCloud of your own Apple Account, with no MileWiz login and no insurance offer. Some drivers want the wider app. Some want the log by itself.

What Stride is especially for
Stride talks to independent workers in the United States: rideshare, delivery, and other self-employed jobs. The same app tracks mileage, expenses, and income, estimates taxes, and offers insurance. If that bundle is why you opened Stride, MileWiz replaces only the mileage piece. You would still need somewhere else for expenses, income, and insurance.
What MileWiz focuses on
- Drives, categories, purpose, tags, parking, tolls, vehicles, and reports
- The log stays on the device and backs up to your iCloud
- No ads and no insurance marketplace
- A free cap of 20 automatic trips a month, then a subscription
Bringing a Stride log into MileWiz
In Stride, export the mileage report. Stride’s help says that CSV lists each automatic and manual mileage entry. Do not import the expense report or the earnings report. Those are different files. Email the CSV to yourself and open the attachment in MileWiz, or save it in Files, iCloud Drive, Dropbox or Google Drive and open it with MileWiz. Keep the original file. Opening the same file again adds those trips a second time. Imported trips are not automatic trips, so they do not use the free plan’s 20-a-month allowance. When the file has addresses, MileWiz looks them up, which needs an internet connection. If one address cannot be found, that trip is skipped. If the phone is offline, a file that contains addresses is not imported.
Stride’s help, updated 4 February 2026, says the mileage CSV shows date, distance, job category, tax-deduction value, record type, and notes. It does not publish the exact words on the header row. MileWiz looks for those fields. A file whose headings differ can be rejected, and you would still have the original. The tax-deduction amount is Stride’s dollar figure. MileWiz does not store it as an expense. It keeps the distance and, if you use a category rate, calculates its own amount later. A job name becomes a tag. When the row does not say business or personal, MileWiz files it as Business.
Stride’s mileage CSV usually has no street address. MileWiz then keeps the distance and does not look anything up, so no internet connection is required for those rows. It also does not invent a route. The original driven path was not in the file.
Who MileWiz is not for
Stay on Stride if free mileage tracking is the requirement, or if you use Stride for insurance, expenses, and income in one place. MileWiz will not do those jobs, and it will ask you to pay after 20 automatic trips in a month.
Download MileWiz only if a separate mileage log is what you were missing. Free download · up to 20 automatic trips a month · see the App Store for current pricing in your storefront.
Questions people ask
How much does Stride cost?
On 4 November 2026, Stride’s own tax page said the app is free to use. The only cost it named is the insurance carrier’s price if you enroll in a plan through Stride. The US App Store listing is free. We did not see a paid mileage plan on either page that day.
Why would anyone pay for MileWiz instead?
You might not. Stride is a reasonable free mileage log, especially for US gig work, and it also offers insurance and expense tracking. MileWiz costs money once you pass 20 automatic trips a month. People pick MileWiz when they want a mileage log with no vendor account, backups in their own iCloud, and no insurance marketplace attached.
Does MileWiz import Stride data?
Yes, from Stride’s mileage CSV, not the expense CSV or the earnings CSV. Stride’s help says that file lists date, distance, job category, tax-deduction value, record type, and notes. Stride has not published the exact column titles, so a file with different headings can fail. The tax-deduction dollars are not copied in as an expense. Many Stride rows have no street address, so MileWiz keeps the distance and does not draw a route.
Does Stride file your taxes?
Stride’s own FAQ says you cannot file your taxes in the app. It prepares reports you can give to an accountant or upload elsewhere. MileWiz does not file taxes either.
