An Everlance
alternative, explained calmly.

Everlance is a popular mileage and expense app. If you mainly need a clean mileage log on iPhone — without paying for a larger tax bundle — here is how MileWiz compares, with prices checked on public pages.

Prices checked 3 November 2026. Competitor names appear for factual, nominative comparison only. This is not tax advice.

Everlance and MileWiz overlap on automatic mileage tracking. Everlance also sells broader expense and tax-preparation features on higher plans. MileWiz stays narrower: capture drives, categorize them, add purpose and expenses per trip, and export a report. That can be enough if mileage is the deduction you actually need help remembering.

Many drivers end up paying for a bundle because it was the default upgrade path, not because they file through the same app. If your accountant already handles return prep, or you only reimburse miles to yourself on Schedule C, a focused mileage log can be the cheaper tool. If you want one product to catch card expenses and walk you toward filing, Everlance’s higher tier is built for that job in a way MileWiz is not.

What Everlance is especially for

On its public pricing page, Everlance positions Basic as a free start, Starter as unlimited automatic mileage tracking with custom reporting, and Professional as mileage plus automatic expense tracking, tax filing and audit defense. If those Professional extras are the reason you pay, MileWiz is not a like-for-like replacement. We are not scoring Everlance’s tax features here — only noting that they exist on the plan Everlance sells.

Everlance also advertises a web dashboard and a 7-day trial on its pricing page. Those are real product choices. MileWiz is an iPhone and iPad app without a separate MileWiz account or browser console. Prefer the dashboard model if you classify trips on a laptop every Sunday; prefer on-device if you want the log to live with the phone that rode in the car.

What MileWiz focuses on

Free tier: 20 automatic trips a month. Past that monthly limit, unlimited tracking needs the subscription, and over-limit trips are not kept unless you subscribe. MileWiz is designed to be light on battery; we do not publish a measured battery percentage.

Trips can split when you stop for a while. MileWiz includes a pinch-to-merge gesture so you can join nearby segments instead of living with a scattered log. Add a business purpose and client tags while the stop is still fresh, then export when your accountant asks.

Privacy, stated simply

A mileage app sees where you go. MileWiz keeps trips on your device and backs them up to the private iCloud storage of your own Apple Account. There is no MileWiz cloud login to create. Everlance’s model is account-backed; that can be convenient for web access and multi-feature workflows. Different tradeoffs — pick the one you are comfortable explaining to yourself.

Who MileWiz is not for

Choose something else if you need Android, a full web dashboard, bank-linked expense feeds, or in-app tax filing and audit-defense packaging. MileWiz is for people who want a private, iPhone-first mileage log without a vendor account.

Side-by-side decision checklist

  1. If you only need mileage for Schedule C or reimbursements, compare Starter-level mileage pricing with MileWiz Unlimited.
  2. If you rely on Everlance Professional’s expense and tax bundle, price that whole workflow — not mileage alone.
  3. Try MileWiz’s free 20 trips on a normal work week before you cancel anything.
  4. Export a report from your current app and from MileWiz; see which one your accountant prefers.
  5. Keep dated backups of any log you already built.

Neither app replaces a tax professional. Deductibility still depends on your facts and the IRS rules that apply to you.

Bringing an Everlance log into MileWiz

Use Everlance’s trip CSV, not the transactions file, and open it in MileWiz. Email the CSV to yourself and open the attachment in MileWiz, or save it in Files, iCloud Drive, Dropbox or Google Drive and open it with MileWiz. Keep the original file. Opening the same file again adds those trips a second time. Imported trips are not automatic trips, so they do not use the free plan’s 20-a-month allowance. When the file has addresses, MileWiz looks them up, which needs an internet connection. If one address cannot be found, that trip is skipped. If the phone is offline, a file that contains addresses is not imported.

MileWiz keeps the date, miles, and places. Start and end times are kept when the file includes them. Work is filed as business, and Personal stays personal. A full street address is used when the file has one. An income source becomes a tag. The deduction amount in the file is a dollar figure, so MileWiz does not store it as parking, tolls, or another expense. Everlance does not include the driven path. MileWiz looks up the addresses and draws a route between them, which needs an internet connection. If one address cannot be found, that trip is skipped.
